Information from the publicly available online databases maintained by Lloyd’s Register – Fairplay (Sea-web), Lloyd’s MIU and Shipspotting.com, as well as the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Consumer Protection, shows 16 port visits by eight NEAFC/NAFO IUU-listed vessels. Of the 16 visits, 14 were to the port of Rostock, the other two were made by the reefer Polestar to Cuxhaven and the fishing vessel Dolphin to Stralsund. When visiting Cuxhaven in May 2007, the Polestar was refused permission to land fish, fined, and ordered to leave the port. Of the 16 recorded port visits to Rostock, 12 were made by the “Rostock Ladies” (see Vessel Profiles), a group of five IUU-listed vessels under Russian ownership, which spent the winters of 2004/05 and 2005/06 in Rostock. The remaining two port visits relate to the reefer Sunny Jane in 2005. Germany is a CP to CCAMLR, ICCAT, IOTC, NEAFC, NAFO, SEAFO, WCPFC and GFCM and a Cooperating Non-CP to CCSBT and IATTC by virtue of the EU membership of these bodies. In addition, Germany is a CP to CCAMLR in its own right.
