Information from the publicly available online database maintained by Lloyd’s MIU shows five port visits by five IUU-listed vessels, referred to as the “Rostock Ladies” to the Latvian port of Liepaja. The five fishing vessels, all of which were on the NEAFC/NAFO IUU vessel lists, arrived in port during April and May 2007, where they were scrapped. Latvia is a CP to CCAMLR, ICCAT, IOTC, NEAFC, NAFO, SEAFO, WCPFC and GFCM and a Cooperating Non-CP of CCSBT and IATTC by virtue of the EU membership of these bodies. Latvia became a member of the European Union on 1 May 2004.
