Information from the publicly available online databases maintained by Lloyd’s MIU and shipspotting.com shows four port visits by two IUU-listed vessels to the Maltese port of Valletta. One visit was by the Apache I, renamed Le Malin and under the control of the French Navy but still on the CCAMLR IUU-vessel list pending final legal action, while the other three visits were by the Oriente No. 7, which was also on the ICCAT IUU vessel list. The recorded visits occurred between March 2006 and January 2008. Three of the four port visits are considered as violations of ICCAT port State measures and one is considered to be a non-violation. Malta is a CP to CCAMLR, ICCAT, IOTC, NEAFC, NAFO, SEAFO, WCPFC and GFCM and a Cooperating Non-CP of CCSBT and IATTC by virtue of the EU membership of these bodies. Malta became a member of the European Union on 1 May 2004.
