Information from the publicly available online databases maintained by Lloyd’s Register – Fairplay (Sea-web), Lloyd’s MIU and shipspotting.com shows five visits by three IUU-listed vessels to two South African ports (Cape Town and Durban). Two fishing vessels on the CCAMLR or CCAMLR/SEAFO IUU vessel lists and the reefer Polestar, which was on the NEAFC/NAFO/SEAFO IUU vessel lists, visited South Africa between November 2005 and October 2009. The Polestar was reported to be bunkering in Cape Town. One visit is considered as a violation of CCAMLR port State measures, three as potential violations (one of SEAFO and two of CCAMLR measures), and one as non-violation. South Africa is a CP to CCAMLR, ICCAT and SEAFO and a Cooperating Non-CP to CCSBT and IOTC.
