Information from the publicly available online databases maintained by Lloyd’s Register – Fairplay (Sea-web), Lloyd’s MIU and shipspotting.com, and from port logs, shows 33 port visits by 10 IUU-listed vessels to 11 Spanish ports (Las Palmas, Riveira, Vigo, Caraminal, Coruna, Villagarcia, Marin, Muelle de Oza – Puerto de A Coruna, Santander, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Santa Eugenia de Riviera). Six vessels are on the NEAFC IUU vessel list and later included on the NAFO and SEAFO IUU lists, four of which are reefers, made 27 port visits. Of the remaining six fishing vessels, five were on the CCAMLR/SEAFO IUU vessel lists and one on ICCAT’s IUU vessel list. All reported visits took place between April 2005 and July 2009. In five occasions, port State action against the IUU-listed vessel was carried out. Eight visits of 33 in total are considered as violations of NEAFC port State measures, six of NAFO, two of CCAMLR, and one of ICCAT. 14 port visits are considered as potential violations of NEAFC port State measures, 11 of SEAFO and one of CCAMLR. Two visits are considered as non-violations. Spain is a CP to CCAMLR, ICCAT, IOTC, NEAFC, NAFO, SEAFO, WCPFC and GFCM and a Cooperating Non-CP to CCSBT and IATTC by virtue of the EU membership of these bodies.
